Bridging between families, services, and educational support pathways

An Educational Consultant functions as both a family liaison and educational specialist, providing a pivotal role in early childhood intervention by acting as a bridge between families, therapy teams, and educational settings.

This dedicated support helps parents navigate the complexities of services such as the NDIS, understand assessment outcomes, coordinate multidisciplinary care, and advocate effectively for their child’s needs in preschool and school environments.

By providing clear communication, practical guidance, and emotional reassurance, the family liaison empowers parents to make informed decisions and actively participate in their child’s developmental journey.

Their involvement ensures consistency across home and educational contexts, fostering stronger collaboration and significantly improving intervention outcomes for the child.

Available services

Individual case management

The Educational Consultant at Coastal Early Intervention Clinic plays a key role in guiding the implementation of services by bridging the gap between therapeutic support and educational outcomes.

Through close collaboration with families, clinicians, and educators, they help interpret assessment results, align intervention goals with learning needs, and ensure strategies are practical, coordinated, and embedded across home and school environments—maximising each child’s potential for success.

Educational support

Another key facet of the Educational Consultant’s role is advocating for the child within educational settings.

This includes supporting families in navigating school systems, preparing for meetings such as case conferences or learning support plans, and equipping educators with tools and insights to better understand and respond to a child’s developmental needs.

Ensuring every child is set up for success in their learning journey.

Staff professional learning

The Educational Consultant also leads the delivery of professional learning in Primary and Early Childhood settings, equipping educators with practical strategies to support diverse developmental needs in the classroom or EC setting.

These sessions build staff capacity around early identification, inclusive practices, and collaborative approaches.

Parent information sessions

In addition, an Educational Consultant facilitates parent information sessions in conjunction with EC and Primary settings.

These sessions empower families with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to support their child’s growth and navigate services such as the NDIS, ensuring consistent understanding and support across all areas of a child’s life.
